Norwich, NY — Never one to miss an opportunity to ride his fatbike, Ben Rabin tackled a treacherous 3 lap singletrack circuit race at this year’s Fatnango Fatbike Extravaganza. Sleet and rain the night before had turned the course into an absolute ice rink, but gave Ben an unexpected edge over his competition.
My goal was to just stay on Frontuto’s wheel as long as I could. He really is much faster than me this year, but wasn’t able to ride the slippery stuff as quickly as me and so I stayed on his wheel the first lap. The 2nd lap, about 2/3 in, I figured I’d pass him on the worst part of the course, get a gap, and then hold on with everything I had for the last lap. It worked.
After opening the gap, Rabin powered on to finish in 1st place in the Class B category race, followed by Justin Frontuto of Tyron Bike and Rick Schenosky of Roth Racing.
