Jon’s Syracuse Half Marathon

It was a cool morning on March 20, 2022 making perfect for running. Jon toed the line with some fast runners from all over the Northeast and Midwest. This year the Syracuse Half Marathon was the 2022 USAT Masters Championship for the Half Marathon Distance giving it a stacked field. Jon is always modest so getting a true recap of what happened in a race can be tricky but if we know anything about him, he’s always ready to race.

At the start of the race Jon “didn’t have a good sense of [his] fitness at this point in the season, so [he] went out conservatively and tried to run consistently throughout the race.” “Consistently,” for Jon is still much faster than most cyclists (and runners). He clocked a 1:16:55 chip time; giving him a pace of 5:53 per mile.  “The competitive field helped pull me along to run much faster than I thought I was in shape for.” This pace got him a 32 place overall (out of 1976) and a 10th place in his age group (out of 85). When asked why would he would do this to himself, he’s a cyclist for goodness sake, Jon replied “Early season fitness test… and the cool jacket!”

Either way we are proud of you Jon; you fast, fast MF. Congratulations and keep an eye out for him at the next running race, you never know when he’s going to show up.
