Oswego, NY — Finishing out the 2018 road racing season strong, the Salty Chimps had a fantastic turnout at this year’s Tour de Loop in Oswego. Dan Deemer,Dave Tate,Patrick McNeil,Ken Hammond,Tom Macera,Fred Bulken,Scott Stewart, and Pat Doner all suffered admirably, enduring light rain, slick roads, and 50 miles of unrelenting, rolling road. A combined field of 1, 2, 3, 4 and Masters made for an extremely challenging field which exploded after the first mile of racing.
The team plan the day before was to get Scott on the podium, and score him the points he needed to win the King of Oswego County title. After we saw the combined field, we knew it would be insane, the plan was just to survive.

The team quickly split up as the brutal pace took its toll. Fellow teammates Kurt and Rob took photos and shouted much needed encouragement to the team as they passed by.
Scott and Fred both went on to finish with the lead group, finishing 3rd and 4th place in category 4, respectively. Fred managed to avoid injury after some light cyclocrossing, and Scott earned enough points to be crowned King of Oswego County for 2018.
